Consulting at Western Health Collective, West Footscray, Melbourne.

Dr Balvinder Khaira is a general practitioner with an interest in mental health and the interplay between the psychological, physical, spiritual and greater societal dimensions of an individual. His medical practice is based on the concepts of mind-body holism, organicity and salutogensis*.

His process is one of inquiry into the causal factors that create disease, whist also supporting factors that can lead to greater harmony, wellbeing, and eudaimonia** in an individual.

He graduated medical school from the University of Western Australia and completed general practice training in Melbourne. He has worked extensively in community health and with people living in social-economic disadvantage. It is from this background that he developed a curiosity in how the western scientific medical model can be supplemented by the healing traditions of the world.

*Salutogenesis : a medical approach focusing on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than factors that cause disease (pathogenesis).

**Eudaimonia : the philosophy of sustainable human flourishing.
